Generating Co-speech Gestures for the Humanoid Robot NAO through BML

چکیده
We develop an expressive gesture model based on GRETA platform to generate gestures accompanying speech for different embodiments. This paper presents our ongoing work on an implementation of this model on the humanoid robot NAO. From a specification of multimodal behaviors encoded with the behavior markup language, BML, the system synchronizes and realizes the verbal and nonverbal behaviors on the robot.

Towards an intelligent system for generating an adapted verbal and nonverbal combined behavior in human-robot interaction
In Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) scenarios, an intelligent robot should be able to synthesize an appropriate behavior adapted to human profile (i.e., personality). Recent research studies discussed the effect of personality traits on human verbal and nonverbal behaviors. The dynamic characteristics of the generated gestures and postures during the nonverbal communication can differ according to...
متن کاملIconic Gestures for Robot Avatars, Recognition and Integration with Speech
Co-verbal gestures are an important part of human communication, improving its efficiency and efficacy for information conveyance. One possible means by which such multi-modal communication might be realized remotely is through the use of a tele-operated humanoid robot avatar. Such avatars have been previously shown to enhance social presence and operator salience. We present a motion tracking ...
متن کاملOn the coordination of gestures of humanoids
Hand gestures are important means of expressivity for humanoids. In this paper by humanoid we understand user-controlled or autonomous virtual humans (VHs) or conversational agents (ECAs) [4] as well as human-like robots [18]. We cover both cases of human-humanoid and humanoid-humanoid interaction. The semantics, the morphology, the variations in performance of gestures reflecting cultural, aff...
متن کاملAutonomous Animation of Humanoid Robots
Gestures and other body movements of humanoid robots can be used to convey meanings which are extracted from an input signal, such as speech or music. For example, the humanoid robot waves its arm to say goodbye or nods its head to dance to the beats of the music. This thesis investigates how to autonomously animate a real humanoid robot given an input signal. This thesis addresses five core ch...
متن کاملMental Timeline in Persian Speakers’ Co-speech Gestures based on Lakoff and Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory
One of the introduced conceptual metaphors is the metaphor of "time as space". Time as an abstract concept is conceptualized by a concrete concept like space. This conceptualization of time is also reflected in co-speech gestures. In this research, we try to find out what dimension and direction the mental timeline has in co-speech gestures and under the influence of which one of the metaphoric...
